十年春，狄灭温，苏子无信也。苏子叛王即狄，又不能于狄，狄人伐之，王不救，故灭。苏子奔卫。

十年春季，狄人灭亡温国，这是由于苏子不讲信义。苏子背叛周襄王而投奔狄人，又和狄人处不来，狄人进攻他，周襄王不去救援，因此灭亡。苏子逃亡到卫国。

秋，狐突适下国，遇大子，大子使登，仆，而告之曰：“夷吾无礼，余得请于帝矣。将以晋畀秦，秦将祀余。”对曰：“臣闻之，神不歆非类，民不祀非族。君祀无乃殄乎？且民何罪？失刑乏祀，君其图之。”君曰：“诺。吾将复请。七日新城西偏，将有巫者而见我焉。”许之，遂不见。及期而往，告之曰：“帝许我罚有罪矣，敝于韩。”

When the time came to go, the shaman told him: "The Emperor of Heaven allows me to punish the guilty, and he will be defeated in Korea."
丕郑之如秦也，言于秦伯曰：“吕甥、郤称、冀芮实为不従，若重问以召之，臣出晋君，君纳重耳，蔑不济矣。”

丕郑去秦国的时候，对秦伯说：“吕甥、郤称、冀芮是不同意给秦国土地的。如果用重礼对他们表示问候而后召请他们，下臣赶走晋国国君，国王让重耳回国即位，这就没有不成功的。”

丕豹奔秦，言于秦伯曰：“晋侯背大主而忌小怨，民弗与也，伐之必出。”公曰：“失众，焉能杀。违祸，谁能出君。”

丕豹逃亡到秦国，对秦穆公说：“晋侯背叛大主而忌恨小怨，百姓不拥护他。如果进攻，百姓一定赶走他。”秦穆公说：“如果夷吾失去群众，哪里还能杀掉大臣？百姓都要逃难，谁能赶走国君？”

If he attacks, the people will definitely drive him away." Duke Mu of Qin said: "If Yiwu loses the people, how can we kill the ministers? The people are all fleeing, who can drive away the monarch?"
