八年春，石言于晋魏榆。晋侯问于师旷曰：“石何故言？”对曰：“石不能言，或冯焉。不然，民听滥也。抑臣又闻之曰：‘作事不时，怨讟（dú）动于民，则有非言之物而言。’今宫室崇侈，民力凋尽，怨讟并作，莫保其性。石言，不亦宜乎？”于是晋侯方筑虒（sī，一种似虎有角的兽）祁之宫。叔向曰：“子野之言，君子哉！君子之言，信而有征，故怨远于其身。小人之言，僭而无征，故怨咎及之。《诗》曰：‘哀哉不能言，匪舌是出，唯躬是瘁。哿矣能言，巧言如流，俾躬处休。’其是之谓乎？是宫也成，诸侯必叛，君必有咎，夫子知之矣。”

"Poetry" says, 'It's so sad if you can't speak, and words can't come from his tongue. When he comes out, he will only tire himself out. How beautiful he can talk, and his beautiful words are like running water, so that he can rest in peace.' This is what he said! After the completion of this palace, the princes will definitely be betrayed, and the king will be in trouble. Mr. Shi Kuang already knows this."

Zi Qi was about to go to Zi Liang's house, and several people reported to him on the way, so he went to Chen's place. Huanzi was about to go out. When he heard that Ziqi was coming, he turned back and put on his civilian clothes to greet Ziqi. Zi Qi asked Huan Zi for his opinion. Huanzi replied: "I heard that Ziliang's family sent weapons to attack you. Have you heard about it?" Ziqi said: "I haven't heard about it." Huanzi said: "Why don't you also send weapons? Wuyu asks to follow you." Ziqi said: "Why do you do this? He is a child. I taught him, but I was afraid that he would not succeed. I also trusted him and appointed the head of the retainers for him. If you fight with him, how should you treat your ancestors? Why don't you tell him? "Book of Zhou" says, "give favor to those who are not grateful for favors, and encourage those who are not encouraged." This is why Uncle Kang can be lenient." Chen Huanzi kowtowed and said, "Qing Gong and Linggong bless you, and I hope you will give me favors." So the two families reconciled.

晋平公向史赵询问说：“陈国大约就此灭亡了吧！”史赵说：“没有。”晋平公说：“什么缘故？”史赵回答说：“陈国，是颛顼的后代。岁星在于鹑火，颛顼氏由此而终于灭亡。陈国也将会和过去一样。现在岁星在箕宿、斗宿间的银河中，陈国还将会复兴。而且陈氏要在齐国取得政权，以后才最终灭亡。这一族从幕直到瞽瞍都没有违背天命，舜又增加了盛德，德行一直落到遂的身上。遂的后代保持了它。到了胡公不淫，所以周朝给他赐姓，让他祭祀虞帝。下臣听说，盛德一定享有一百代的祭祀。现在虞的世代数字不满一百，将会继续在齐国保持下去，它的征兆已经有了。”
