十五年春，邾隐公来朝。子贡观焉。邾子执玉高，其容仰。公受玉卑，其容俯。子贡曰：“以礼观之，二君者，皆有死亡焉。夫礼，死生存亡之体也。将左右周旋，进退俯仰，于是乎取之；朝祀丧戎，于是乎观之。今正月相朝，而皆不度，心已亡矣。嘉事不体，何以能久？高仰，骄也，卑俯，替也。骄近乱，替近疾。君为主，其先亡乎！”

Zigong said: "Looking at it from the perspective of etiquette, both monarchs are subject to death. Fu etiquette is the body of life and death. Today, the moon is facing each other, but they are not crossing each other, and the heart is dead. How can a good event last long if it is not appropriate? To look up high is to be arrogant, and to be humble is to take over. Arrogance is the cause of chaos, and it is the substitute for recent illness. If you are the master, you will die first!"

Now in the first month of the year Meeting each other is illegal, and there is no etiquette in the hearts of the two kings. How can they last long? Being high and bowing is pride, and being low is decadence. The king is the master of the country, and he will probably die first!
吴之入楚也，胡子尽俘楚邑之近胡者。楚既定，胡子豹又不事楚，曰：“存亡有命，事楚何为？多取费焉。”二月，楚灭胡。

吴国进攻楚国的时候，胡子把楚国城邑靠近胡国的百姓全部俘虏。楚国安定以后，胡子豹又不事奉楚国，说：“国家的存亡由于天命，事奉楚国干什么？只不过多花费一点而已。”二月，楚国灭亡胡国。
