五年春，晋围柏人，荀寅、士吉射奔齐。

In the spring of the fifth year, the Jin State surrounded the Bai people, and Xun Yin and Shi Jishe fled to Qi State.
初，范氏之臣王生恶张柳朔，言诸昭子，使为柏人。昭子曰：“夫非而仇乎？”对曰：“私仇不及公，好不废过，恶不去善，义之经也。臣敢违之？”及范氏出，张柳朔谓其子：“尔従主，勉之！我将止死，王生授我矣。吾不可以僭之。”遂死于柏人。
At the beginning, Wang Sheng, a minister of the Fan family, was jealous of Zhang Liushuo and told all Zhaozi to make him a native of Bai. Zhaozi said: "Is it because you are wrong and have hatred?" He said to him: "Private enmity is not as good as public, good things should not be abolished, evil should not be done with good, this is the scripture of righteousness. Do you dare to violate it?" When the Fan family came out, Zhang Liushuo said to his son: "Your Majesty, encourage me! I will stop death. Wang Sheng has given me the power. I can't arrogantly do it." Then he died in Bairen.
当初，范氏的家臣王生讨厌张柳朔，向范昭子建议，让张柳朔去做柏人地方长官。昭子说：“这个人不是你的仇人吗？”王生回答说：“私仇不能危害公事，喜爱不能废弃过错，厌恶不能排除善良，这是道义的常规，我岂敢违背它？”等到范氏离开柏人，张柳朔对他儿子说：“你跟随主人，努力吧！我准备留下来死守，王生把死难的大节交给了我，我不能对他不讲信用。”于是就战死在柏人。
At first, Fan's retainer Wang Sheng hated Zhang Liushuo and suggested to Fan Zhaozi that Zhang Liushuo should be appointed as the governor of Bairen. Zhaozi said: "Isn't this man your enemy?" Wang Sheng replied: "Private hatred cannot endanger public affairs, love cannot abandon faults, and hatred cannot exclude kindness. This is a moral rule. How can I dare to violate it?" When Fan left Bairen, Zhang Liushuo said to his son, "Follow the master and work hard! I am going to stay and defend. Wangsheng entrusted me with the important task of death. I can't be unfaithful to him." So he died in the battle at Bairen.

The Duke's illness caused Guo Huizi and Gao Zhaozi to become emperors, and all the young men were placed in Lai. In autumn, Duke Jing of Qi died. In the tenth month of winter, Gongzi Jia, Gongzi Ju, and Gongzi Qian rushed to the guard, while Gongzi Chue and Gongzi Yangsheng came to run. The Lai people sang and said: "Jinggong died without being buried, and the affairs of the three armies were not planned with him. A teacher is a teacher, and who is a party?"
齐国的燕姬生了个儿子，未成年就死了。但是诸子鬻姒所生的儿子荼受到宠爱。大夫们恐怕荼被立为太子，就对齐景公说：“您的年纪大了，还没有太子，怎么办？”齐景公说：“您这几位如有忧虑，就会生出疾病，姑且去寻欢作乐，何必担心没有国君？”齐景公生病，让国惠子、高昭子立荼为太子，把公子们安置在莱地。秋季，齐景公死去。冬季十月，公子嘉、公子驹、公子黔逃亡到卫国，公子鉏，公子阳生逃亡到鲁国来。莱地人歌唱说：“景公死了啊不参加埋葬，三军的大事啊不参加商量，众人啊众人，又要前往何方？”

The officials were afraid that Tu would be made the prince, so they asked Qi Jinggong, "You are old and you don't have a prince yet. What should you do?" Qi Jinggong said, "If you are worried, you will get sick. Let's go have fun for the time being. Why worry about not having a king?" Qi Jinggong fell ill, so he asked Guo Huizi and Gao Zhaozi to make Tu the prince, and placed the princes in Laidi. In autumn, Qi Jinggong died. In the tenth month of winter, Gongzi Jia, Gongzi Ju, and Gongzi Qian fled to Wei, and Gongzi Chu and Yangsheng fled to Lu. The Laidi people sang: "Jinggong is dead and he doesn't attend the burial. He doesn't participate in the discussion of major military affairs. Where are you all going?"
郑驷秦富而侈，嬖大夫也，而常陈卿之车服于其庭。郑人恶而杀之。子思曰：“《诗》曰：‘不解于位，民之攸塈。’不守其位，而能久者鲜矣。《商颂》曰：‘不僭不滥，不敢怠皇，命以多福。’”
Zheng Si, Qin, was rich and extravagant, and he was also a fan of officials. He often served Qing's car in his court. Zheng people killed them because of their evil intentions. Zisi said: "The Book of Songs says: 'If you don't understand your position, the people will be happy.' There are few people who can live long if they don't keep their position. The Song of Shang says: 'Don't be arrogant and don't abuse, don't dare to neglect the emperor, and you will be blessed with many blessings.'"
郑国的驷秦富有而奢侈，是一个下大夫，但常常把卿的车马服饰陈列在他的院子里。郑国人讨厌他而把他杀了。子思说：“《诗》说：‘努力不懈在职位上，百姓所以才得以安宁。’不安于他的职位而能够保持长久的是很少的。《商颂》说：‘不出差错不自满，不敢懈怠不偷闲，上天赐予各种福禄。’”
Si Qin of the State of Zheng was rich and extravagant. He was a low-ranking official, but he often displayed his carriages, horses and clothing in his yard. The people of Zheng hated him and killed him. Zisi said: "The Book of Songs says: 'Working tirelessly in one's position is why the people are at peace.' There are very few people who are not content with their position and can maintain it for a long time. The Song of Shang says: 'If you don't make mistakes and don't be complacent, if you don't dare to slack off and don't take time off, God will grant you all kinds of blessings.'"
